New ID theft law, but who knew?Published 01/06/07
There may be something missing from your paycheck in the new year - a Social Security number. A bill signed into law by Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. on May 16, and in effect as of Jan. 1, forbids companies from printing Social Security numbers on paychecks and wage statements. The move is intended to combat the growing fear of identity theft. However, several area business owners said they were clueless about the new law.
