Sworn in today as Maryland’s 61st governor, Martin O’Malley called for “one Maryland united by our belief in the dignity of every individual.” In the traditional speech after taking the oath of office, the former mayor of Baltimore evoked the memory of George Washington, who resigned his command of the Continental Army at the State House in 1783.
