The Clean Cars bill is now officially up for debate in the General Assembly.
Lawmakers filed the bill yesterday and expect to hold hearings in the next two weeks.
According to supporters, the bill would require a greater percentage of new cars sold each year to have advanced technology, such as hybrid cars. It also would add carbon dioxide, which causes global warming, to the list of pollutants covered by emissions rules.
