ONANCOCK, Va. - A sport utility vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and collided with a pickup truck, leaving five people dead and two with serious injuries, state police said yesterday.
The crash on Virginia's Eastern Shore occurred at 10:20 p.m. Friday when the SUV drifted to the right on Route 179, then overcorrected into oncoming traffic and landed on top of the pickup, police said in a statement.
Four men in the SUV and a 2-year-old child in the pickup were killed, police said. The child's mother survived, as did one man in the SUV.
