Thanks to donations from two civic groups, officers have three surveillance cameras, each about 2 or 3 inches long and about the width of a small flashlight. Set up inside a home or other building, they can catch someone in the act of committing a property crime.
Officer Jon Zimmer, community liaison for the district, said members of the Police Community Relations Council felt there are enough situations where a camera would help to make it worthwhile to raise the money.
