New details emerge in baby's death

Months before putting her newborn son in a trash bag and leaving him outside to die, an Arnold teenager had used the Internet to research ways to cause a miscarriage, a prosecutor said yesterday.

Megan Rene Patria, who's accused of second-degree murder in the infant's death, smoked and drank in an apparent effort to end the pregnancy and even joked with a friend about having him kick her in the stomach, Deputy State's Attorney Laura Kiessling said.

New details of Ms. Patria's pregnancy, which she hid from her parents, and the secret home delivery that ended in the baby's death surfaced in court as the defense sought to have...
