The officer, Doyle Holquist, age 32, was conscious and speaking as he was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was treated and released late this morning.
The shooting brought a swarm of officers, along with news and police helicopters, to a normally quiet area.
"It's Severna Park, man. That stuff's not supposed to happen here," said Mike Ehnes, who works at a Domino's Pizza not far from where the shooting happened.
