Chesapeake Beach crabber catches invasive mitten crabPublished 05/19/07
Just as biologists were readying their new education campaign about mitten crabs, one of the furry invaders showed up in the Chesapeake Bay yesterday morning. Vince Meyer, a waterman and owner of an Essex crab house, found the oddity while checking crab pots off of Chesapeake Beach at 9:30 a.m. "We had heard about the mitten crab and when the boy pulled the pot up, he kind of knew what it was," Mr. Meyer said. "Then we thought it was mud on the claws. We tried to get the mud off and we realized it was fur. It was like slimy fuzz."
