Congressman wants kids out of classroom, into nature

When President Bush and Congress touted the landmark No Child Left Behind education law, some said they left something out: learning about the great outdoors.

With its emphasis on reading and math and testing, the law's unintended consequence is that science and the ecology are getting short shrift in classrooms, environmentalists and education activists charge.

Now they're rallying behind a federal bill to make sure environmental education is given its fair share of attention in America's schools.
