Family sues police over dog's shootingPublished 07/23/07
An Edgewater woman whose pit bull was shot and killed by a county police officer last fall is suing the department for more than $3 million.
In the lawsuit filed earlier this month, Deborah Ransom, 48, of 3611 10th Ave., claims an unnamed officer overreacted Nov. 27 when her 60-pound dog "enthusiastically and gently" pulled at his sleeve. She said the officer pulled out his gun and "maliciously" shot Chopper in the back while she and her teenage daughter, Tiffany Hancock, stood about five feet away.
