State pitches in to fix Severn tributaryPublished 08/15/07
Gov. Martin O'Malley yesterday announced a $1 million grant to help restore part of Cowhide Branch, one of the main tributaries of the troubled Weems Creek.
The $2.3 million project will restore the damage done by surrounding development and a large stormwater pond that failed in 1993.
It is one of the largest projects of its type the county has undertaken and will restore the tributary by recreating wetlands and other habitat. It also will remove a barrier that has blocked fish from moving upstream to spawn and provide other water-quality improvements to Cowhide Branch, Weems Creek and the Severn River. "Sometimes the...
