Parvo stops shelter adoptionsPublished 10/12/07
The county Animal Control shelter has shut down pet adoptions until next week following the discovery of a third dog with a deadly canine virus, officials said.
County police Lt. James Richey, commander of Animal Control, said the dog was adopted Friday, but the new owners brought it back to the Millersville shelter because it had symptoms of the parvovirus. The dog was euthanized that day.
"We had another incident so we're shutting down," Lt. Richey said Wednesday. It is the third time in recent weeks a dog at the shelter has contracted canine parvovirus, a viral disease that attacks the digestive system. The...
