National cemetery is being refurbished

Annapolis - Though it's the season for graveyard pranks, vandals are not responsible for removing headstones at a historic West Street cemetery.

 

A Veterans Administration official said this morning the Annapolis National Cemetery across from Park Place is being refurbished.

"We're taking up all the headstones and replacing the sod," Kirk Leopard, who manages the cemetery. Annapolis National Cemetery is one of 14 national cemeteries established by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. Many of those buried there were Union soldiers who died from...
