Deadly crash on West Street

One person is dead and another in stable condition after a speeding BMW clipped another vehicle on West Street early this morning.

Police say the blue BMW was heading eastbound on the 1900 block of West Street at 1:20 a.m. at a high rate of speed when it clipped a white Chevrolet Tahoe in the next lane. The BMW hit "several phone poles" before crashing into the sign for the Sun and Earth Health Food store, according to the city Fire Department.

Accident on West Street - 2007-11-11 17:12:31

As a former resident of the Nations Capital, I find it odd that there are not more traffic signals on this long strip, especially taking into consideration the constant stop and go traffic, which in my opinion is partly due to the abundance of fast food restaurants that are also located there. I too am surprised that there has not been more accidents. This strip of traffic is entirely to long of a stretch. S.Hall

west street accident - 2007-11-10 15:07:19

with all the speeding on west street,it's surprising that more accidents haven't occurred there...there is very rarely any police presence on west st as evidenced by motorists routinely exceeding the posted limit of 30mph
