A dump truck on northbound Interstate 97 flipped over at the Hawkins Road overpass at 6:50 a.m. this morning, snarling traffic on the interstate as well as on Route 50.
The truck blew a front tire and flipped over in the median, according to the Maryland State Police. Police were forced to close both northbound lanes of the interstate during the morning rush, backing up traffic from westbound Route 50 nearly to the Severn River Bridge.
Southbound I-97 was also moving at a crawl with backups beginning in Glen Burnie as motorists slowed to gawk at the accident.
