Annapolis woman calls Lab a lifesaver

It was a quiet Sunday and Debi Meeks had her Annapolis home to herself.

Her husband Greg and two youngest children had gone out of town for a ski trip, and the self-proclaimed workaholic was taking some time to relax.

After attending church, Mrs. Meeks returned to her Waters Ridge Court home and took a nap. Mackenzie, the family's 5-year-old Labrador retriever was resting too, but in another room. The dog knows she's not allowed in the bedroom, Mrs. Meeks said.

As she lay in her bed, Mrs. Meeks was suddenly awakened by a sharp pain in her left leg. It was a charley horse, she assumed, until the pain shot into her right...
