A sign warns passersby about a sewage spill in the 2500 block of Riva Road in Annapolis yesterday. About 2,200 gallons of sewage spilled out of a manhole cover at about 10:35 a.m. The spill was stopped after 15 minutes and the area was treated with lime, according to the county Department of Public Works. County police arrested a man last night after investigating reports of someone trying to spend counterfeit money at Westfield Annapolis mall.
Police were called to the mall after Chick-fil-A employees became suspicious about a $50 bill that was passed at their restaurant. After investigating surveillance footage and getting a description of the suspect, the investigating officer was approached by a clerk from the Borders book store who said a man had unsuccessfully tried to spend what looked like a fake $50 there.
