Libraries, new fire stations face cutsPublished 05/20/08
The county auditor yesterday recommended cutting $17.9 million from the county's $1.22 billion budget, including $1.2 million for new books at county libraries and $3.1 million for new fire station construction.
County Auditor Teresa Sutherland also identified $61.8 million in potential cuts the County Council could make this year as it works to find more money for area schools and tax breaks.

police and fire have been getting good raises and pay for many many years when other county employees got little or nothing. it's time they get cut along with everyone else. Libraries should charge a fee to use meeting rooms. A non-refundable fee.
