Coral Williams, 5, of Annapolis and her father, Gary, put a little patriotism in her choice of headdress. The two were part of the crowd watching the Memorial Day parade in Annapolis.Monday was a perfect day for a parade. But, apparently, not perfect enough to lure more folks to view the annual Memorial Day Parade as it snaked east on West Street, around Church Circle and down Main Street to City Dock. Parade-watchers eagerly plunked down to view the passing patriotic pageantry. However, there were stretches of West and Main streets that were barren of spectators. It was quiet even at Government House, where in past years the governor's children have peered at the promenade through the wrought-iron fence. It was the lightest turnout in recent years. Memorial Day Parade - May 27, 2008
How sad for the children that the turnout for your parade was so small. I recall living in Annapolis in the 60's and taking my children to watch the parade. I explained to them the purpose was to honor those who had served this country. Today, they still understand and respect the military and what it has done for them. Pat Girod, Columbus, Ohio
