The 44-foot Beneteau Making Waves was on its way to a Rhode Island-to-Bermuda race when the rudder failed.
"We were sailing along fine, nice breeze, nice conditions, everything was nice," said Jim Praley II, co-owner of the vessel. "Then we heard a bang and started to lose rudder control."
