Published 06/10/08

Comcast cable is shuffling some of its channels, moving the Washington, D.C., network affiliates to its more expensive digital tier.

Comcast customers currently receive network affiliates from both Washington and Baltimore, providing two ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS channels. But on June 25, Comcast will cut the Washington channels from its analog service.

The change will mean that Comcast's analog customers will have to upgrade to the digital service if they want to continue receiving stations from Washington, though company officials said the majority of their customers won't notice any change.

According to Comcast...

Comcast and big business - June 15, 2008

You can bet your last $$ that comcast and others are just part of the God of Greed based within the republican party. They have succeeded in tripling the price of Gas, doubling the price of electricity, and now the game is being played with cable. To hell with them. America needs change!

Comcast Sucks! - June 14, 2008

I have hated Comcast for a long time now. My only other option is Verizon FIOS, but every time I call to talk about switching service, the customer service reps are totally clueless, so I've given up. Broadstripe (Millennium) does not service my community. I call Broadstripe periodically, begging them do provide service to my community. The day they do (one can hope)....so long Comcast!!

$16 to $52 - June 14, 2008

This is an outrage! Does anyone know what the process is to complain about this change? The Baltimore news is sub-par to the news of a top-10 market such as Washington DC. We can't let this happen without a fight. The county has to do something about this!!

Monopolies are Miserable - June 11, 2008

Comcast has a monopoly and do whatever they want, whenever they want. Their customer service is lousy, they screw with your internet bandwidth, and they make changes to make it MORE difficult for their customers to enjoy their service. The County Council really needs to grill them the next time their license to operate a monopoly comes before the council.

Cable - June 11, 2008

I agree technology should move forward. Why should I need a "cable box" if my TV is digital? Until then it's just the basic cable for me. My TV will get over 100 channels. That's enough TV for me. If I should need a cable box after analog goes away I'll just rent movies and save my cable money!

Dividing Communities - June 11, 2008

One should look further at the separation of communities here. Where are the dividing lines for those with DC stations and those with Baltimore? Are Crofton, Crownsville, or Bowie DC communities? Who's making these decisions? Are these dividing lines being drawn up by the distance to DC or by politics. Even without cable, new Digital TV will cause a massive disruption and a lessening of information, not an increase. Ever notice how on CH 4 and the other DC news stations that they don't put Highway 50 on the weather map and exclude Annapolis, yet by distance its just 23 miles away. I-97 is clear every day going north, why? Because Annapolitans in general don't go to Baltimore to work, but we do drive to DC. Watch for more of how this divides other communities across the country. We're just the first to get a notice on it.
