Faces of valor

As Ted Levitt walks around the car in his garage, he can point to each face airbrushed on it and tell a story.

Colleen Dugan — The Capital Ted Levitt, owner of Chick and Ruth’s Delly in downtown Annapolis, has a story to tell about each person airbrushed on his classic 1931 Buick, dubbed “Faces of Valor USA.” Mr. Levitt personally restored the car and hopes to raise money for wounded service men and women and emergency workers and their families. At top left is Marine Capt. Ben Sammis, who was killed in action in Iraq; at top right is Capt. D.J. Skelton, who was wounded in Iraq.

He recalls the shock he experienced after seeing Capt. D.J. Skelton for the first time after he was seriously injured by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq.

"I didn't even recognize him," Mr. Levitt said.

Capt. Skelton's airbrushed face has one eye closed - almost as if winking - because when the photo the artist used to paint the picture on Mr. Levitt's classic 1931 Buick was taken, his left eye was nothing but a series of stitches.

Capt. Skelton's face joins 42 others airbrushed...
