Lawsuit filed in fatal ambulance crashPublished 06/26/08
The family of a Virginia man killed last year when his motorcycle hit an ambulance is suing the county for $4.4 million. No charges were filed in connection with the Sept. 14, 2007, wreck in Maryland City that claimed the life of Gene Sergent, 21, of Woodbridge. County police say Mr. Sergent caused the wreck; that he ran a red light about 11 a.m. as he drove east on Route 198 in front of the Maryland City Plaza shopping center. But in their lawsuit Frieda L. Sergent and John A. Turkette, Mr. Sergent's parents, say Firefighter Darrel E. Blount was to blame for the wreck. Michael McGowan, their attorney, said they have two...

Who are you.. - 2008-07-18 18:01:00
Wendy, didn't your mom teach you anything? If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all! What did you want to accomplish by posting this comment? Did it make you feel better? Tony was a son, brother, friend and family. I'm assuming you don't have children by the way you are cold heartily speaking about a young boy that had the rest of his life to live.
I'm a friend of Tony's and he was family. What gives you the right to generalize? Just because other motorist speed, pop wheelie's and do other things that aren't so smart doesn't mean Tony did. Not all people that drive motorcycles as you have described. He was a very smart and safe driver.
Your little co-worker that works for Maryland City Fire Department, was he there? No. Was anyone there to help Tony when he was laying on the ground for over 30 minutes, NO! The drivers of the ambulance sat in the vehicle and let a helpless boy die. They did not do their job that day and they deserved to be fired! I hope this rest on their heart for the rest of their lives.
Tony, we miss you, we love you and hope one day to be reunited with you! Rest In Peace!
Toni

are you kidding me??? - 2008-06-26 19:29:37
i drive 198 eastbound daily, and with the lack of local enforcement see many errors day to day, however the scariest is driving at the appropriate 50 mile speed limit and see not 1 BUT 2 of the so called motorcycles driving on westbound on one wheel. Yes the cycles where doing wheelies at 50 MPH on 198 westbound during rushour. As we all have more important things to worry about, we dont call to complain etc.. it is what it is, however a coworker whom works at the maryland city fire dept spoke of the said accident, it was the total fault of the cyclist weaving in and out of traffic as they all do. Know wander no charges were filed, the filee died!!! I am not speaking of all cyclist, but I thing we all know whom I mean. Ergo the tragic accident of 2 cyclist who sped off of the ramp in baltimore last weekend, no fault of others.
