Democratic convention sparks domestic abuse

ANNAPOLIS - An argument sparked by the Democratic National Convention turned violent when an Eastport man punched and chased his girlfriend around the house with a knife, Annapolis police said.

City police responded to a call Wednesday afternoon from a woman who said her boyfriend attacked her. Jessica Christine Oldenburg told police that an argument began when her boyfriend, Lorenzo Prince Glenn, was watching coverage of the Democratic convention and shouted "(expletive) Republicans."

Ms. Oldenburg responded: "My dad is a Republican," to which he responded, "(expletive) your dad."

According to the police report, Ms. Oldenburg "wanted to further upset him" and followed with expletives about his mother and father. When she got no response, she insulted his grandmother.

That apparently did the trick.

Police said Mr. Glenn pushed Ms. Oldenburg's 9-month-old baby off of her lap and punched Ms. Oldenburg in the back of the head.

He then grabbed a five-inch serrated steak knife from the kitchen and began chasing Ms. Oldenburg, who was carrying her baby in her arms, around the house and up the stairs, swinging the knife at both of them repeatedly, the report said.

Police charged Mr. Glenn with two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.

Sgt. Eric Crane of the Annapolis Police Department said he wasn't surprised that politics could inflame a domestic altercation.

"I suspect we'll be hearing more of those as the election gets closer," he said.

Capital announces magazine Web site

The Capital has unveiled a new Web site devoted to its magazine Waterfront Living. The publication, which debuted last year, is geared to those who live along the 534 miles of shoreline in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's counties.
