Gov. Martin O'Malley has ordered the creation of a group of transportation experts to evaluate how the Maryland Transportation Authority inspects bridges and tunnels. The group, to be selected by John Porcari, the secretary of the state Department of Transportation, will consist of national transportation experts and will review current inspection procedures as well as follow-up actions. Recommendations, including what new inspection techniques should be used, will be due by early next year.
