'Jogging Joe' Shafran dies

Joe Shafran, the local fitness personality and columnist for The Capital known affectionately as "Jogging Joe," died last night of heart failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center, his family said. He was 81.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Hardesty Funeral Home, located at 12 Ridgely Ave. in Annapolis.

A friendly and inquisitive man who could almost instantly become a friend, Mr. Shafran collapsed during his morning run Saturday near the West Annapolis Volunteer Fire Company.

He had no pulse, no blood pressure and was in full cardiac arrest. Rescue crews were able to restore his pulse and...
