Slots battle lines drawn during Crofton forumPublished 09/15/08
Supporters last week argued that slot machines are a way to keep millions of dollars in Maryland and bolster public schools, while opponents countered that the social costs of gambling are being underestimated. In a forum held in Crofton, Fred Puddester, chairman of the pro-slots group For Maryland For Our Future, said the machines are a way to keep $450 million in the state while diverting a portion of that revenue to an increasingly costly education system. Then to really save money we should get rid of the lottery, keno and other state run gambling. Oh and outlaw bingo parlors and any charity fundraisers that use gambling of any kind to raise money. Think of the savings in social programs that we would have. Or maybe that's a bunch of BS and just a lame excuse not to have slots.
