Teen to be tried as adult in Eastport shootingPublished 09/30/08
A 16-year-old boy who confessed to shooting and paralyzing a man in April will be tried as an adult, a county judge ruled yesterday. Malachi A. McFarland of Eastport Terrace, who was just 15 years old and a 9th grader at Annapolis High School at the time of the shooting, is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the April 28 shooting of 20-year-old Jawan Keith Tasker. If convicted as an adult, he faces the possibility of life in prison. If convicted as a juvenile, he would only have been held until his 21st birthday.
