Pasadena - A Pasadena woman was killed Thursday evening after her motor scooter hit the side of a car.
Judy Lynn Wright, 50, from the 2000 block of Southwood Road in Pasadena, was driving through the intersection of Magothy Beach Road and D Street in Pasadena, when she hit the Toyota Scion, police said.
At 7:36 p.m. emergency dispatchers received a call about the accident, said county police Spokesman Justin Mulcahy.
Initial investigations show Ms. Wright was driving south on Magothy Beach Road and was approaching the D Street intersection, he said.
At the same time, Jessica Wurtzer, 18, of D Street was driving east on that road, approaching the Magothy Beach Road intersection. Ms. Wurtzer stopped at the intersection, drove across the street, and Ms. Wright drove her Kymco scooter into the side of her car, said Mr. Mulcahy.
Battalion Chief Michael Cox, county Fire Department spokesman, said that when emergency crews arrived Ms. Wright was unconscious.
She was taken by ambulance to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are investigating the accident, and said Ms. Wright was wearing a helmet.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, Mr. Mulcahy said.
City man arrested on rape charges
ANNAPOLIS - A city resident, 30, was arrested Friday after police said he had sex with an 11-year-old.
The victim's father contacted police because he thought Otilio Ramirez of Boxwood Road was paying an unusual amount of attention to his daughter, said Officer Hal Dalton, a city Police Department spokesman.
Police said they later found that Mr. Ramirez and the girl had sex in the victim's residence.
Mr. Ramirez was charged with first- and second-degree rape and first-, second- and third-degree sex offense, police said.
Police officer injured in crash
Edgewater - A county police officer was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash last night.
Cpl. Brian Wheeler, an 11-year veteran of the county Police Department, was extracted from his police cruiser after he crashed near Stepneys Lane in Edgewater.
Cpl. Wheeler, 34, was driving south on Route 2, toward an accident on that road and Colony Crossing, when his cruiser lost traction near Stepneys Lane.
The road was wet during the accident, which caused him to drive over a curb and through some grass before his cruiser crashed into a tree, said Justin Mulcahy, a county Police Department spokesman. The side of the cruiser hit the tree.
It took emergency crews five minutes "to pop a door to get him out," said Battalion Chief Michael Cox, a county Police Department spokesman.
As a precautionary measure, Cpl. Wheeler was taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
He was soon released, Mr. Mulcahy said.
Cpl. Wheeler was the only person involved in the crash, Chief Cox said.
