No criminal charges in Bay Bridge wreckPublished 12/19/08
The driver who fell asleep while crossing the Bay Bridge this summer - apparently causing a fatal wreck that sent a tractor-trailer plunging into the water more than 30 feet below - will face only traffic charges.

Gillespie - Capital file photoOfficials announced Thursday that no criminal charges will be filed against the driver who fell asleep at the wheel before this fatal accident on the Bay Bridge in August. While 19-year-old Candy Lynn Baldwin had a small amount of alcohol in her system after the Aug. 10 wreck, prosecutors said that was not enough to support auto manslaughter charges. "These cases are obviously very difficult and tragic, but the determination is based not on the consequences of the act, but the act itself," Queen Anne's State's Attorney Frank Kratovil said in a prepared statement....

I still feel so sorry for the family of the man that died and I'm sure her not being charged severely does not help the matter. I hope someone gets sued, whether it be the girl or the state/mdta for unsafe traffic patterns across the bridge. We all know this could EASILY happen again. I bet Omalley has already forgotten about this.
