J.J. Marie can recall a time when many sized up his Stevensville company as a lowly "toy boat" maker. 
Joshua McKerrow - The CapitalAce Saxon repairs a Zodiac inflatable boat during a training class at the company's headquarters in Stevensville on Kent Island. The company's military work has helped buoy it through trying economic times. But with Marie as president since 1990, Zodiac of North America has become known as the producer of the boat of choice for everything from Coast Guard rescues to yacht tending. "When the Marine Corps or the Navy Seals or the Green Berets go to war, they do it in a Zodiac," Marie said. For nearly two decades, Marie has made it his mission to expand the Zodiac brand of inflatable boats from Stevensville.
