That's the sales pitch: Smoke this cigarette anywhere because it's not really a cigarette and there's really no smoke.
Meet the electronic cigarette. It has all of the nicotine and none of the tar or cancerous side effects from tobacco.
The little devices emit a vapor of nicotine and have been finding their way into mall kiosks across the country during the past year. Marketed as a healthier way to smoke, the electronic cigarette has both...

Shills - 2009-03-29 20:15:21
mike and peg seem like shills. I would almost bet on it. The people that work at the kiosks on the various malls have a certain snake oil " I am so happy to see you' look and feel about them. But nonetheless, if it satisfies the smokers need to suck and drug themselves at least it does not foul the air I breathe. I am curious though, is there a similar device I can use to vaporize my marijuana ? The most popular questions on Obama's 1st web conference leads me to believe there is a lot of money to be generate in such a product.

Omissions - 2009-03-29 19:14:52
As an E-Cigarette (or Personal Vaporizer) user, I would like to point out a few things that the article has left out:
"There's no age restriction," Dachille said. "You could give it to a 5-year-old."
1- At the price of most starter kits, there aren't going to be many kids with the money to buy one - certainly NOT a 5 year old!
"Nicotine is extremely addictive, and if addiction is healthy, then I don't know what healthy is," Chan said. "The healthiest way to smoke is to not smoke at all."
2- There are many people who used to smoke 2-3 PACKS of cigarettes a day who now vaporize and inhale NICOTINE FREE LIQUIDS - all that is in these products is Proplyne Glycol, which is used by Pharmacists to make cough syrups and other medications, Vegetable Glycerine, which is used to thin cake frostings, and food flavorings.
"there is no evidence that electronic cigarettes do not have any secondhand smoke effects."
3- There is no evidence that spraying heavily scented air fresheners have any secondhand smoke effects, either, but I don't see anyone attacking them....
The Personal Vaporizer is on trial by the public and the government at the same time....its greatest crime - that it LOOKS like a cigarette, that it produces a water vapor that SIMULATES smoke, and that there are plenty of smokers out there who have made the switch to this devise and cheated the government out of its tax dollars... Its a novelty gadget, I say leave it (and us) alone!

How can electronic cigarettes be a - 2009-03-29 18:24:32
That doesn't even come close to making sense. It's just nicotine! The FDA has a problem with electronic cigarettes, but has NO problem with regular cigarettes (which kill millions every year with its 4000+ harmful chemicals and cancer-causing carcinogens? Are you %#%&$#! kidding me? I guess money truly does rule all. My e-cigarette has saved my health and the health of those around me (since there's no second-hand smoke). What a joke...
Here's a blog post that dispels some common myths about e-cigarettes:
