All told, county police responded to 62,369 incidents of crime last year - 356 fewer than in 2007, a drop of 0.6 percent.
Serious crime, which police refer to as Part 1 crime, was up by 6.1 percent last year in Anne Arundel, but the category's violent crime - homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault - dipped 0.7 percent compared to 2007. There were 2,028 cases of violent crime in 2008.
