Police shoot man who pointed rifle at officer

A county police officer shot a Civil War re-enactor yesterday afternoon in Severn after the man allegedly pointed his muzzleloader rifle at him, police and witnesses said.

Sean Patrick Norris — The Capital County police investigate the scene Frirday where an officer shot a man after he pointed a gun at the officer.

Laura Perry, the owner of the home where Rickey Kitzmiller, of Millersville, was shot, said the man had threatened to kill her niece and his mother.

Shortly after noon, after Kitzmiller's mother and Perry's son tried unsuccessfully to calm him down, police arrived and approached the house.

"I heard a loud yell and then boom, boom, boom, boom," Perry said.
