St. John's College graduate Luke Anthony Russel of Annapolis is congratulated Sunday by college President Christopher B. Socrates, Homer and Dante have all been packed. Once the constant companions of the 2009 seniors at St. John's College, they now occupy boxes bound for the outside world. And as their owners venture out into the real world after graduation yesterday, their books may or may not follow. "I'm going to take a break from philosophy," said Christopher Thorn, who grew up in Davidsonville. "My family keep giving me books to read, popular fiction, so I have quite the extracurricular bookshelf to take a crack at."
