At first the words were foreign: jib, spinnaker, mainsail, windward, leeward, tack, keel.

Several sailing groups and businesses are offering free sailing on Sunday afternoons at the National Sailing Hall of Fame’s docks at Annapolis City Dock. The idea is to expose more people to the sport of sailing. Annapolis Community Boating sponsored a FreeSail event in Annapolis to learn to sail for free on Sundays from April to June.
The National Sailing Hall of Fame, in Annapolis, partnered with local sailing businesses and organizations to offer free sailing on Sunday afternoons.
But after three hours on the water, the rookies were speaking fluent sailor-ese, even helping trim the sails and guide a large and fast J/105 sailboat down the Severn River.
