Hitler comparison leads to call for GOP leader's resignationPublished 06/27/09
Leaders of the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County have pulled out of a Fourth of July parade and asked their president to resign over comments she made comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler. Threats have arrived in the women's e-mail inboxes after the comments Joyce Thomann posted on the group's Web site gained national attention from prominent blogs and cable television pundits, the group's Vice President Carolyn Middleton said. Several local Democrats and Republicans also have condemned Thomann's writings, which said Obama's politics resembled the Blitzkrieg tactics of Hilter's Nazi...

Its apparent that the hateful words Thomann has a history of saying is what the RWAAC wanted people to hear or they would have let her go before she upended their club. Iam sure most republicans dont beleive the vile comments thomann makes.Who in their right mind would put someone with that history in a leadership position.

"Becareful with whom you have speak for you, because their words are your words."
So says an apparent supporter of Nancy Pelosi who accused the CIA of lying, Barbara Boxer, who insisted a Marine General call her Senator because she worked really hard to get the title, and of course John Murtha - the self proclaimed hero of the military, who with absolutely no evidence publically convicted several of Marines of murder in Haditha from his bullypit in Congress - all of whom have been cleared of the charges upon review of the evidence. At least the GOP never allowed Thomann to rise above the level of a county leader - to bad the Dems didn't do the same for the others.

Thomann has a history of writing and saying hateful things but she was a leader in the GOP, how stupid is that. If that is what represents the GOP it explains how they got their butt whipped in the national election.

"It baffles me that you think the majority should not do anything and let the vocal minority dictate what we should do."
David, that is exactly the opposite of what I was saying. The vocal minority should not dictate to the majority. But I'm starting to realize your disconnect here. Who do you consider the vocal minority and the majority? The Thomanns of the world are the vocal minority (and yes, there are Thomann types in both the far right and far left). The majority consists of the moderates who are too busy rolling up their sleeves and trying to work out solutions to waste their time howling at the moon.
I've never said anything against Thomann's right to speak, nor about whether I agree/disagree with her comments. My point was simply that such hostile comments as hers do not help the Republican party, and are in fact detrimental to it. It may rally the rest of the vocal minority troops, but it turns off more than 50% of the population and gives Obama an excuse to drop any attempt at bipartisanship. It's extremely poor strategy, period...and it relegates Republicans to the sidelines.

Scott - 2009-07-02 09:36:26
Obama's "I won" comment clearly indicates that he is unwilling to work our differences the two parties might have in passing legislation. The Democrats in Congress have done little to reach out to even let Republicans have a say in legislation. It is one thing to say you will reach out, it is something completely different to actually do it.
It baffles me that you think the majority should not do anything and let the vocal minority dictate what we should do. From what you are saying we should sit back relax and let the country go where that vocal minority takes us and not raise our voices in concern. The sad fact is that some need to speak up for the majority when most are afraid of speaking up for fear of the consequences. Those consequences are exactly what we see happen to Thomann. You may disagree with her one hundred percent, but does that mean she has to be vilified, belittled, and the organization she is part of threatened?
If a tactic works, as has been proven in this case, we would be foolhardy to not use. You can't ignore something that works and expect to win. I accept the tactics of the vocal minority because they work, not because I approve of what they are doing in intimidating the majority.

who was being vilified again? - 2009-07-01 17:22:21
David, I think you have it backwards. Granted there were a lot of Democrats who were uncivil towards President Bush. And I think unfortunately too many Republicans now feel like it's their chance to get back at them by reciprocating, rather than taking the high road. But while I don't agree with many of Obama's policies and actions (although in practice they have actually been quite moderate), he has not been uncivil towards Republicans. He's said from the start that he wants to reach out across the aisle. Take that for what it's worth, but when Republicans respond in turn by decrying him as a socialist, dictator, or Hitler, why should he bother? I wouldn't if I were in his shoes.
The fact that you and others are willing to accept and validate the premise of the vocal minority trampling on the rights of the majority makes me worry about the direction of our country more than anything the Democrats could ever do.

I agree Scott, but - 2009-07-01 16:12:46
Scott, I would agree that it would be best for everyone to be civil to each other and have honest debate. However what do you do when the other side is not willing to do that. One person makes a comment based on her own beliefs and is attacked and vilified for it. Civil conversations need to go both ways. If one is unwilling as the Democrats have proven and disregard the rules of civility then the one that tries to obey them will lose, in the political arena. Today it is not who has the best argument but who is more vocal. The more vocal will trample the rights of the majority because they are willing to be vocal and active.

Thomann's contribution - 2009-07-01 12:21:25
President Obama needs to use his influence on Congress and use our stimulus tax dollars to give incentives to employers to bring back jobs, worth virtually Trillions, that went to INDIA, and other foreign countries. Globalizationspreading Americans wealth aroundworked too well sending jobs overseas. WE need our Congress to put our stimulus taxes to work reversing that failed program instead of giving Billions to AIG, and financial institutions who cheat Americans with unscrupulous mortgage programs, etc., etc. When FDR created the Works Progress Admin. to bring US out of the Great Depression, FDRs effort were successful. But FDR wasnt trying to take Constitutional freedoms away with socialized medicine, and the Patriot Act. Congress needs to revise that Act to protect Americans rights to free speech. Ms. Thomann brought to the surface the most critical issue to DemocracyFREE SPEECH. When we are afraid to criticize government officials, and their actions, in a lawful manner, Americans are half way to Dictatorship.

Just not smart... - 2009-06-30 16:02:45
People just like to complain when their side loses. It doesn't matter whether you're a Democrat or Republican, blaming the other side is an easy way to get attention. The fact is, nothing substantial has changed since the inauguration in January. Nothing. Pres. Obama and Congress have pushed through some legislation, but it's still too early to see any effects, good or bad. To claim that all of a sudden in the past 5 months that your rights/freedom/paychecks have been taken away and that the country is being destroyed is about as credible as Chicken Little claiming the sky is falling. For most of us, daily life has not changed...or if it has (e.g., being laid off) it's more likely the result of something that happened more than 5 months ago.
I'm not saying people should agree with Obama, or even like him. But he is the President, and his party controls Congress. If the GOP wants any input on his decisions, the way to get it is NOT by making comments like Thomann's. That just gives him more incentive to walk away and ignore opposing points of view. Republican leaders (and I mean real party leaders, not this Thomann character) have a choice: work WITH Obama and hopefully get a portion of what they want, or work AGAINST him and get nothing. If they choose the latter, it's going to be a long four (or eight) years.

Obamination - 2009-06-30 14:39:07
It saddens me to watch what is happening to this country. As I watched our new presidnet being sworn into office as the mobs were mesmerized with praise as if they were in the presence of the messiah, it reminded me of a herd of sheep being blindly led to their death in the slaughter house. How could someone with less experience at governing people than a fast food restaurant employee gain the trust of an entire nation? Why can't the public get a grip on what is actually happening? Why does the media fail to report all the facts? Can't anyone see that all the rights that brave men gave their lives for are slowly being taken away? Health care is a privelege, not a right. So is a pay check. I'm sick of giving away my hard earned tax dollars to people that can't (won't) work because the government makes it too easy to get a free ride. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"..."God helps those that help themselves". As long as there are bleeding heart democrats in office, none of these phrases will ever have meaning again.

4th of July--free speech - 2009-06-29 20:06:54
When doing classified work to protect ones country, stress is part of the job because there is constant pressure to do a perfect job as quickly as possible. When the boss hands you the assignment, he usually says, It was due yesterday. (i.e., but you are still expected to do top notch work.) Along with it came the saying, If you cant stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Harsh criticism is difficult to take; I understand how Ms. Thomann would cave and apologize without standing up for her intentions.
Since 1776, American men and women have laid down their lives for our Constitutional rights of free speech, and the Bill of Rights, etc. When we are about to honor the sacrifices of our ancestors on the 4th of July, Ms. Thomann deserves our thanks for reminding us that free speech is one of the most important freedoms of Democracy that our family members gave up their lives to protect.
Due to the massive overhaul of government programs that President Obama is pushing Congress to pass quickly, if they fail to exercise due diligence, the outcome can be disastrous because their failure will cost us dearlywhen money is already tight. Congress needs to be encouraged to prudently evaluate bills and not pass them without reading them, etc., TRUTH and FREE SPEECH are necessary in this process, if the United States is to rise from this severe recession

To R. Black - 2009-06-29 18:41:45
To R. Black. I will say it again, in case I wasn't clear. All of the three ism's are for a very strong central government. Socialism as we see in Europe today is relatively benign when compared to Communism and Fascism, it still comes down to the powerful central government that controls all aspects of life, even business. They all might be for different reasons but it still comes out the same in the end. While I said there are other things that are relatively minor you missed the biggest "how much they subjugate the people." Hitler was pro business to the extent of how it benefited the state, was for forced labor, or I should say slave labor.
You also cannot make the claim that Communism isn't nationalistic so therefore is different from Fascism. You call it trans nationalism. Is it that because they wanted to subjugate the countries around them? Every government is interested in self-preservation from a monarchy to a Democracy, so could be considered on the right.
I would suspect most forms of government have aspects form both sides. I am on the right and I believe in nationalism, but I don't believe in a strong central government, but I believe government should do things that are beneficial to the people, but have as little control over them as possible.
Governments that are on the same side of the political spectrum can be in opposition. To just say that Fascist hated Communists doesnt mean they were completely opposite. From your point of view you have strong central governments on the left and the right. Where does that put us who want a limited central government, where does it put the anarchists that don't want government at all, I guess we must fall somewhere in the center. It is also strange that you would consider Fascism to be conservative when they certainly werent preserving the old form of government they took over. Then you can say every form of government is conservative once it gets into power.

Republicans and Democrats are committed to more government involvement in our lives. They are committed to more government control of the economy. Thomann- a hero-not villian - 2009-06-29 15:14:07
It is so easy to attack Ms. Thomann and to vilify her politically objectionable comments. But FREE SPEECH, protected by the 1st Amendment to our the Constitution, protects her right to express herself, and the United States Constitution did not require her expressions to be POLITICALLY CORRECT. Political correctness is a crafty tool designed to disqualify statements and beliefs of American citizens. It was developed by politicians to undermine the free expression of ideas and thoughts. Instead of saying, He has a right to his opinion, the politician can say, That was not appropriate or acceptable to say!
Instead of picking apart Thomman, if her attackers would carefully listen to both sides of the Congressional debates, on President Obamas massive legislation overhauls, they might realize that RUSHING to get the job done, to please President Obama (and their REAL BOSSESthe American TAXPAYERS) may result in massive failures, and REAL DEPRESSION.
Republican Congressmen interviewed by George Stephanopoulos said that the Health Care Plan , will be taken from the backs of Seniors, and Medicare, and gave many reasons why it will not work as Obama said. Our forefathers instituted the SEPARATION OF POWERS because Congress needs to act independently in a DEMOCRACY.
END of PART ONE; PART two to follow.

She's a Nobody - 2009-06-29 14:28:31
I don't understand why in several articles, The Capital keeps referring to her as a "GOP Leader." She is not an elected official. She does not work for the RNC, the Maryland Republican Party, or serve on the state central committee. In no way does she have any authority to shape the party's platform, select candidates for office, or sway public policy. She may be a community organizer at the grassroots level, but she is NOT a "leader" of the party in any true sense of the word.

The Cult of Kyle - 2009-06-29 12:39:10
Brother Black, Brother Kyle will not be swayed and that's ok. He belongs to a cult of men called Constitutionalists. They are self educated using the knowledge they created within their own cult. Most are white men will little higher education. They imagine themselves are little founding father types still iving in the 17th and 18th century. They are harmless, but very vocal in their dislike of Our Great American Society. Don Dwyer is also one of them.
There opinions have little affect on the political dialogue as they are indeed a fringe group==nothing wrong with fringe groups.

A digression that needs a response - 2009-06-29 12:23:35
@David Kyle
You grossly oversimplify the differences between socialism, communism, and fascism. How can you suggest that there are only minor differences between a fascist regime in Italy and a European liberal-democratic socialist state. Fascism by its very definition is anti-communist so once again, how can you suggest that there are little differences between the two? Not to mention Fascist ideology is based on nationalism while communist ideology is based on trans-national class struggle. (Direct opposites) Fascism indeed comes from the far right. Are you to suggest that Mussolini, Franco, and Hitler were not on the far right of the political spectrum? They were anti-leftist, very conservative, and very pro-business. In fact many people describe fascism as a "corporate state". That is also the direct opposite of both socialist and communist tendencies. Not to mention, fascism believes in the strong over the weak. While communism and socialism believes in leveling the playing field between the strong and weak. Granted, there has been a gap between theory and practice in socialist and communist states. But there is pretty much universal consensus that fascism is a far right ideology.

3 G's - 2009-06-29 11:58:13
Socialism, Communism, and Fascism are all basically the same except to the degree that they subjugate the people and a few other relatively minor differences. All have strong central governments that control the people. They all seek to take money from individuals to distribute it ideally among the people. Of course this does not always work out because human greed comes into it and some people become more worthy than others. Fascism is not on the far right, as many would believe because those on the far right want limited government for which Fascism certainly is not.
All three are completely different from a Republic, which is what we are supposed to have. The three ism governments are in fact more in line with Democracy because when the people realize they can vote themselves money they will do so at the expense of those that make the money.

Use of Language - 2009-06-29 11:13:15
Hitler comparisons and the use of "nazi" as a suffix is wrong regardless of who uses it. Words like soupnazi, feminazi, grammarnazi, etc. etc. are extremely offensive. Comparing Obama to Hitler or Bush to Hitler is just ignorant and ALSO offensive.
Adolph Hitler and the Nazis Party in Germany were fascists and NOT socialists even though that was part of their name. They were responsible for the deaths of millions through concentration camps, extra-judicial executions, and their war machine.
Sure you can stand up for someone's right to say these things. That is the great thing about the USA. We have freedom of speech even if what you are saying is ignorant, misinformed, and offensive. But at the same time, we as citizens have the right to condemn, shame, and marginalize people who trivialize the barbaric acts of the Nazi regime when they compare that regime to U.S. Presidents or refer to it casually in regards to people who are "strict".

Back at Nathan - 2009-06-28 15:34:16
Well Nathan, once again you have demonstrated your true colors. When you are confronted do you always resort to name calling? You totally missed the point. So, with my 'dumbed down' education, here is the point...People vote for the candidate of their CHOICE based on how closely they align with the candidate's views. Got that? If Colin Powell had aligned with the views of John McCain, he would have voted for him. He didn't so he voted for Obama. You espouse people voting based on color, and yet you appear bothered that Mr. Powell didn't vote for his friend. So, I ask you, if your friend was running for office on a platform that you did not agree with, would you vote YOUR beliefs, of simply vote for your friend? It takes courage to stick to one's convictions when the expedient thing to do would be follow the masses. But if it's easier for you to accept that people vote based solely on race then I'll just assume that you'll vote for any White candidate, regardless of their views. If I were to apply that faulty logic, you would have voted for Hitler! Now, is that true or is that ridiculous? Hopefully, you will see how utterly ridiculous and sarcastic that statement is and realize that voting is based on more than friendship. We are astute enough to understand the comparisons to Hitler and hopefully, you are too. With your superior knowledge and education, I'm sure that you know your history.

Goodwin's Law - 2009-06-28 10:16:59
Goodwin's law can only be invoked in a discussion. It has no validity at the start of the discussion as with Mrs. Thomann. It is meant to prevent people that don't have an argument resorting to Hitler comments to make a statement or their point. I also have noticed when people can't refute facts or progress the conversation any further they star attacking spelling and grammar. Both are designed to distract from the conversation taking place. One with shock, the other with pretended intellectual superiority. Neither are helpful to what is being discussed.

Hitler/Obama - 2009-06-28 05:49:47
The only connection I perceive is that Obama has been, by numerous comments, accused of leaning toward socialisim and the Nazi party expressed itself as a socialist democratic party. I think she just choose a bad medium to express her thoughts as otherwise I see no relationship to Hitler.

Ok Brownie Ill bite - 2009-06-27 23:45:02
Guess you did not notice I was calling the Republicrats names also. Anyway NO. Blacks did not vote for ALL the white presidents. For the first 16 they did not have that right. For the next 20 presidents it was determined that their right to vote had been suppressed thus the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then they have pretty much voted lock-step for the same candidates 95% for Obama. One of the arguments by the old segregationists against giving blacks the vote was that they would be easily led and consistently vote as a group and for reasons other than the abilities of the candidates. Modern day segregationists would point not so much at the national elections but at the large cities where blacks are a majority and no whites need apply. You can add PG County to this mix. You know this why are you acting like you do not? There are of course exceptions - our Governor being one but this is an overwhelmingly Demoncratic State unlike Orange where your neighbors obviously disagree with you. Next Colin Powell is a Republican and called John McCain his good friend and an ally against what he calls extremism in the Republicrat Party. Well he had his chance to support his good friend. But he not only did not vote for him endorsed Obama publicly at a critical juncture of the election. Some friend! Now - go pick up a history book and try to overcome your dumbed-down educational experience.

Godwin's Law - 2009-06-27 21:05:42
Actually there is usenet protocol named Godwin's Law which discourages the use of Hitler's name as a comparison in political discourse on the net.
All civilized posters follow this. Most blogs and message boards will end and remove the thread if his name is ever used as a comparison, whether it be in politics or any other discussion.
Ms Thomann could have made her distaste for the current administration's policies evident without invoking a name that general protocol knows should never be used as a comparison.

Blame Rove... - 2009-06-27 20:39:59
The funny thing is that these loud personal attacks all started with Rove. Sure, they've been around, but the Republicans literally gave the Democrats a beat down in the '00 election cycle. After eight years of this, the Democrats finally said "enough" and beefed up their defense and offense. As they say, you reap what you sow. Having said that, two wrong's do not make a right. Freedom of speech, yes, but certain positions require that you be more careful about how you exercise that right. She has a legitimate concern, but she used the wrong words to express it, thereby killing the message she originally wanted to make. Now, she just looks like an old batty blue hair and nobody is paying attention to her original point.

Fred , I will try and answer your question, rhetorical though it may be. Outrage is a personal reaction not a corpotate one. Though in the case of this republican Leader it was so outrageous that people were motivate en mass to speak up. Their outrage effectively shut down the GOP's attempt to restart their platform of controlling the national dialogue using negativity. Please feel free to feel outraged as that is your God given right as protected by the Constitution of these United States. Moreover, by calling Marylander's "low class hicks" though practicing your personal freedom to say what you will, you have failed to learn the lessons that Christ's civil souls have taught the female GOP leader.

who can throw 1st stone - 2009-06-27 17:14:43
Thomann was absolutely correct but could have selected her words more carefully. Who can throw the first stone there? Who besides Obama has a teleprompter 24/7?
She was right when she expressed concerned about the way President Obama is RUSHIHG Congress to pass bills, such as the Climate change bill, which Congressmen said, on CNN yesterday, that they had not yet read (because it is as big as a phone book) but apparently felt compelled to vote on.
How can this be considered prudent legislation, when congressmen dont know what the expected results of the law will be; or if the correct measures are in the bill to obtain those results, if they have not read the bill before voting on it? Congress has continually complained that they are feeling pressured to act before they can ensure that the bills they approve will be able to work.
Because our GRANDCHILDREN will have to pay the BILL when HASTE MAKES WASTE, our Congressmen should not act like SHEEP (when we need at least a chimpanzees level of intelligence)-(just a joke, dont send the Gestapo after me!!) Congressmen need to be accountable, and read bills before they pass them. And those who cant live a day without stoning someone for things they are guilty of, should get a life.

Thank You - 2009-06-27 17:04:07
I appreciate the women of the group realizing that there is a differnce in having ideas that are not alike. As oppose to outright disparaging remarks that will inflame others more than trying to bring about a more cohesive understandig of each group. I am a very conservative Democrat and when I heard the people had a problem with Angie Harmon being Republican I was astounded, she has every right to choose what party she wishes to be a part of. We as Americans have the best Rights in this world and yes we have the rigth to say whatever we please. But we do not have the right to yell "FIRE" in the movie theatre because we do not like the movie that is playing. You can have your issue with Presdent Obama all you like and I will respect you opinion about it because I would want you to do the same for me. What I cannot respect is someone who wants to use inflamatory words just to let the cow out of the barn and then apologize after it is lost. She said what she wanted to say no matter how much she aplogizes for it. I would have more respect for her if she said that it was what she wanted to say and stand by it. She wrote the words and knew what type of reaction it would cause and she got it, and now her name is known in the Republican Party HMMMM. I do not agree with what she said because it is nothing but a way to divide a country even more over issues that were boiling in the pot long before President Obama was elected..Someone once again trying to blame the door being left open on the new farmer long after the cows got out when the old farmer was not paying attention....Or did not care...

Obama/Bush vs Hitler - 2009-06-27 16:43:01
Both of them are guilty of Hitler like actions. Many Democrats compared Bush to Hitler. So, I'm not clear what all the excitement is about? Bush and the Democrats in Congress passed FISA and the Patriot Act, which are laws Hitler would have passed in Germany, after taking control. Now, under Obama, we have a President strong arming bondholders into turning over their property to the Government and the Unions of GM and Chrysler. President Obama, threatened to sic the White House Press Corp on those bondholders, unless they cave in to pressure to agree to the government's terms in bankruptcy. Another issue is why hasn't Obama called for repealing the Patriot Act, Fisa and so many of our civil liberties stolen under the Dem's bogeyman, President Hitler Bush? Wakeup America, Obama is serving President Bush's third term. That's why President Obama kept Bernake, Gates and other GOP picks in office. Why was Obama silent while President Hitler Bush stripped us of our rights? President Hitler Obama is just finishing off the job that Bush did on us. Now, let's see if I get any death threats from you cool-aid drinkers?

Democrat Family Values? - 2009-06-27 16:29:51
Hey Cory C. what kind of family values does former senator and pres. candidate John Edwards have? and what political party is he affiliated with? Political hypocrisy cuts across all parties and you know it. And please don't retort with that tired out old stand by about GOP standing for family values therefore they need to live by higher standards ya ya ya. Because GOPers can bring up holier than thou Dems who are supossed to fight against the financilly corrupt. For example they can point to examples like Mayor Sheila Dixon stealing $50 gift cards intended for the homeless, Obama's Tony Resko real estate dirty deal and Teddy Kennedy railing against Big Oil while quietly slippy in tax break legislation for smaller oil companies that benefits the Kennedy dynasty portfolio. Greed and lust are not not just Democrat or Rebublican traits they are human.

Obama compared to Hitler - 2009-06-27 16:13:23
It is a crime to threaten violence against Thomann or her GOP Women's Club. The police need to be called to investigate and arrest whoever is responsible for the threats. Why didn't Mr. Cox mention the police in his report. Regardless of the validity of her comparison. I would expect by now, that the police are already investigating? It's an awful strange way for this newspaper to report apparently violent threats against a local group of women. I guess once you compare Obama to Hitler, you don't deserve freedom of speech anymore. Especially, if it's coming from a group of GOP women. When will the people wake up that that a democracy doesn't mean we are to be ruled by political Kings from the right and left wing, but primarily the left wing right now.

Hitler comments - 2009-06-27 15:51:48
Joyce, you have every right to express your opinion and comparing Obama's political tactics to Hitler's military tactics is right on the mark. The Republicans don't like it because they are afraid of being called mean spitited and Democrats don't like it because the truth hurts. Now everyone, lets be honest and admit that the Obama Administration has not only studied but used tactics of Hitler's regime - particularily the Joseph Goebbels propoganda division. If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State. The latest Obama lie being spun as truch is saying that his healthcare plan will reduce healthcare costs and provide the same medical care we receive now.
Another Hitlerian, J. Goebel's lesson BHO and his cohorts has learned is Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play. This one needs no elaboration.
Keep on speaking truth to power Joyce at least as long as the government controlled media allows it.

fear.... - 2009-06-27 15:46:40
to compare Obama's policies to Hitler's simply comes from fear. She has a right to say what she wants, and it just may be the opinion of many, but in my professional opinion - foot has been inserted in the mouth again. And there are a few Republicans of late who need to reconsider their "family values" stance. If you are going to condemn an elected official for cheating on his spouse and try to have him fired.....don't do the same thing and not resign your post. Just a little hypocritical. Hola Argentina!!! Those illegal immigrant women are really infiltrating the Republican party! And what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas - ask John Ensign and Cynthia Hampton....

What the heck is this supposed to mean? Inclusive of what? Socialists? Liberal Democrats? We have a hard enough time getting Republicans out to vote. Here's a suggestion: Stop exerting yourself with these "great steps" to be politically correct. Go back to speaking English and use it articulate the conservative message.

My brothers and sister let us learn to forgive the mean- spiritedness with which the GOP is currently dealing with. Let us also know that it is often a struggle for one to let go of their domineering words. As the current administration and its throngs of God-filled benevolent supporters attempt to fulfill the vision and teachings Of our Lord Jesus Christ through their actions rather than their rhetoric , it is time for love and caring to fill the earth. Go forth ye of faith and behave and speaketh to others in the way you wish to be treated. Let the promises of the Lord be actualized during in this world so we may obtain complete salvation in the afterlife. Begin today by speaking to each other in loving tones.

Why so bothered? - 2009-06-27 14:02:10
I guess what Mrs. Thomann said must have some truth to it, considering the outrage of Democrats. And Republican women, who unfortunately suffer from the embarassing "We want them to like us" syndrome are now bowing out of the 4th of July parade because of the Hitler like threats coming from sleaze balls like Nick Berry of the Democratic Central Committee who is, I guess, busy preparing Mike Busch to to double as a float in what'll be a typically silly parade in the Soviet Repubic of Maryland. As long as Republicans allow the mentally distressed left wing to tell them what they can and cannot say, they will remain the small, ineffective group that they are.

To Nathan D. - 2009-06-27 14:00:28
Hey, Nathan, you ARE what you speak, and your post is exactly what is wrong with the party you love. What does BlacksIt has always been my opinion that people vote for the candidate most aligned with their views, not the color of their skin. Your argument that Blacks vote for Black candidates BECAUSE they are Black is a faulty one. Because, if you were to look at ALL of the presidents that have been elected in America, they have all been WHITE!! Now, I know this may surprise you, but Black people had to vote for them for them to get elected. And, do White people only vote for candidates because they are white? No, they don't, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. President Obama was elected because more people aligned with his views than that of John McCain. Colin Powell, like every other American who voted, chose to cast his vote based on what he felt would be best for America. The people who voted for McCain did the same thing. In this case, more people voted for Obama than for McCain, and I do not think that race was their overriding concern. Now, I am not naive enough to believe that race does not matter, because race ALWAYS matters, but that just strengthens my point that in this case, people chose to vote their conscious. If Republicans want to get the Black vote (or any vote for that matter) it is time for the party to stop being the narrow-minded, self-righteous, hypocritical, party of extremists. It SHOULD not matter what percentage of the electorate a group comprises, their views should be included in the national debate by those who wish to lead. But, by your logic, the only people that we should be concerned about what they "think" would be WHITE people. Oh wait! That is already the image of the party, so I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The RWACC is indeed spineless. They claim to stand up for the the GOP ideals and when one speaks her mind and upsets some people, they immediately disown her and toss her under the bus.
If she was such a problem in the past, why did these women allow her to continue to post to tyhe website? Was there no oversight on the website or was it all Thomann? Woudl she have been able to post porn?
Regardless of the comment (and it was an opinion shared by many and echoed in the Tea Party in April), the organization needed to handle this better. A simple statement saying that it is her opinion and not necessarily that of the organization would have sufficed.

Errata - first line - 2009-06-27 09:58:35
So the Democratic Central Committee of Anne Arundel County demands an apology from Joyce Thomann; they went so far as to say that her comment was "beyond the pale of civil discourse."
Great...the Thought Police are at it again. Since when is using the name "Hitler" or the term "blitzkreig" against the law - or against the rules of what the Democrats call "civil discourse."?
Since when are Ms. Thomann's detractors the keepers of what is allowable in thought, opinion or speech? The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County should be backing Ms. Tomann instead of tarring and feathering her. Many Republicans - most likely many leaders of the GOP itself - agree with Ms. Thomann regarding President Obama's actions; they just don't have the guts to say so out loud - rather, they whisper it between themselves in dark corners.
The RWAAC is spineless. If they can't rally behind one of their own when she is attacked, if they cave in when critcized, if they cower instead of pursuing those who threaten them (which is against the law - ask anyone who has threatened oh, say a Federal judge, in a blog), then they SHOULD disband - and allow a group of women who have the backbone to stand against critics rather than cowtowing to them re-form the organization to take over the responsibility of the checks and balances required in a two-party system.

Stand up Spineless Republicans - 2009-06-27 08:02:14
Here we have a prime example of the lefts idiocy. A Republican makes a comment on the tactics used by the military machine of a dictator and compares it to Obama and the Democrats go crazy. What they are trying to do is take the focus away from what Obama's change is going to do to this nation, which will not be good. Democrats in the House passed a cap and trade bill that will potentially cripple American industry on a non existent problem and the lunatics on the left want to hang an old lady for calling it a blitzkrieg.
With the lefts ability to unleash their dogs to send threatening emails to the Republican womens club and scare them is appalling and is a thousand time worse than what people think Thomann did. Let me see if I have this straight. We have a Republican using a comparison of the tactics used by a crazy dictator on one hand, then we have Democrat crazies threatening a bunch of women. Hmmm, which is worse? Is free speech dead in the new Obama land? Do we not care that people have the right to say what they want.
It is also time for spineless, gutless Republicans to find the courage to stand up and push back against the radical left that want to bury our party ten feet deep. If an old lady can't say what is on her mind without being harassed by Obama's propaganda machine in the left press we have more serious problems than a person using comparisons to tactics in a military campaign to those used in a political one that threatens to destroy this country as we know it.
It is better to stand up to principles you believe in and lose elections, than to cower in the corner afraid, scared of offending those that want to destroy you and lose elections. Unless of course you would rather be lapdogs to the Democrats, but we will find people to replace you.

She is not the first, nor will she be the last, to make a stupid Hitler comparison. She apologized. That should settle the issue. Although, it may not have been completely off base. I'm not comparing Obama to Hitler, but his economic policies could be seen as somewhat fascistic. A Mussolini comparison would be less offensive and still make the point.

...Republicrats just don't get it. They need to follow the Demoncrats and fund their own MoveOn type orgs so they can compare Bush (Oops, I mean Obama) to Hitler every week. And who are you trying to kid? Blacks vote lock-step for Black candidates BECAUSE they are Blackall the time. Even Colin Powell wouldn't vote for his old friend John McCain. Republicrats need to stop thinking about what Blacks "think." They will not get their vote and they alienate a large number of potential supporters, many of them in the ranks of people who refuse to vote for two fundamentally indistinguishable political parties. Blacks enjoy way too much political power. Blacks are given so much attention by US politicians, media and entertainment that many foreigners who come here believe that blacks comprise 50% of the population, instead of 13%.
