Mother: Didn't notice child abusePublished 06/28/09
The mother was oblivious to the signs in 2000 and 2001. Her husband was having sex with her 14-year-old daughter two or three times a week, but all the woman said she saw was the decorated soldier and devout Christian. "I ask myself over and over, how could I not have known," the mother said, according to a recording of a court hearing. "When he constantly watched porn of 10-year-old girls until 3 in the morning, I should have known. He even pulled out a picture from his wallet (of my daughter) while having sex with me." The Capital is not identifying the husband nor the mother to protect the...

Appalled - 2009-06-30 10:00:00
I am just so disgusted with this mother! How dare she allow her husband to continue to live in their house and be around her child!!! She deserves prison time as much as the molester! Being a victim of molestation I can tell you that the scars never go away you are always healing and if it wasn't for my mother who was there to love and care for me I would not be where I am today. As a mother she should have immediately called the police and had him forcibly removed, then put her daughter into counseling. I pray that the victim is able to rise above this atrocity and not be too emotionally damaged.

Outrageous! - 2009-06-30 06:48:32
It's outrageous that the mother didn't immediately report the abuse to the Police, or worse yet take matters into her own hand. Ok, the guy went to counseling...but was he living in the home at the time? Per the article, she knew about it in 2004...divorce was 2007, why the overlap? Was it ok with her? She should be held criminally liable for not protecting her (and potentially other's)child.

An 18-month sentence is too light of a punishment for this type of crime.

Time to Heal - 2009-06-28 17:18:43
I pray the daughter can heal from her ordeal and that the mom can heal as well. I am not going to say what should be done to the step-father, that is between him and his GOD. We have to be alert as a people period when we see changes in our children and the kids in the communitty. There are small changes that can alert you to somthing wrong, something as small as not smiling as much or changing the way they dress. If we adults do not protect our children who will. This is the 2nd case this week of child sexual abuse, the sad part is, is that the other case was committed by a teen. People please we need to do what we can to bring back the time when kids could walk down the street with out fear of being jumped or raped or murdered. This is far to often the norm now as oppose to the exception when I was brouht. I refuse to believe that there is nothing that can be done to change this, I refuse to be a victim to those who want to reign chaos over the communitty because they choose the do wrong. People I call you all to do what you can to make our streets safe again for our kids and everyone one else that you live near. Let's tell and show these people we will no longer accept their excuses of why they do what they do and have them held the held responsible and accept the consequences of their actions. If they are young they need pschiatric help to help understand why they did what they did, when I say young that will be anyone under the age of 10. If you can Rap one of your favourites songs then you should be held liable for your actions, over 10 and can cuss you out. It starts young, believe it...We need to stop it when they are young...That way we are not dealing with them when they get older and have killed, and raped and so on....
