Two shot dead in Admiral Heights homePublished 07/01/09
Two people were shot to death early this morning in Admiral Heights, a quiet Annapolis neighborhood of modest ramblers and split-foyer homes that was preparing for July Fourth celebration on the same street.
J. Henson - The CapitalCity police are investigating the shooting deaths of two people found this morning in this Admiral Heights home. The identities of the dead man and woman have not been released, but police said there is a 'strong possibility' the victims knew the assailant. Police said the woman's son appeared on a neighbor's doorstep at 5 a.m. Neighbors said the boy was covered in blood. City police could not confirm whether the dead man and woman were homicide victims, but police spokesman Ray Weaver said detectives are investigating them as suspicious deaths. "We are working under the strong possibility this was not a random event, and that the victims know the assailant," Weaver said. Weaver confirmed details provided by neighbors that a woman and her 12-year-old son rented the home at...

Concern - 2009-07-03 13:06:15
Welcome to the real world Admiral Heights. You should have concerns waking up at 6 am to yellow crime scene tape. Just think of the children that live in public housing have to see on there way to school when sometimes the body is still there. As of July 2,2009 there was a victim of a gunshot would in the Clay Street area. Is the police hiding crime statisics,is it safe? Those are fair questions that concern citizens have.

Don't get me wrong about what I 'm saying but if you read your very first post down at the bottom you really seemed very concerned about this police and what they are choosing to share with the public and because you lived across the street it sounds as if you knew the people living in the home, I know all my neighbors across the street and on both sides of my home. it seems to me that you would of know these people in some way. maybe the man who shot these people ???

Hey, you all don't need to know every single detail of this investigation. I'm sure if the police thought you were in any danger they would knocking on every door letting you know that. I'm pretty sure we will discover this to be a domestic situation with NO danger to the general residents. BE ALERT, BE SAFE, and remember this, this is No Camelot by the bay, this is just like any other city in America.

sad - 2009-07-01 20:19:55
I am saddened by these events. As I use to live in this house years ago. It's sad that people do stupid things and leave behind pain and tragedy that others have to face. It seems to be a pattern emerging in my life. This is the third place I have lived that is attached to tragedy. My former home in Richmond was the scene of a murder here recently and then there is the apartments I lived in where the man who shot up the holocaust museum lived. I am truly saddened by these events and hope the child finds peace in his life as he is the one who will truly suffer.

investigative techniques - 2009-07-01 18:42:59
When a rash of burglarys struck admiral heights, police concealed evidence so that investigators could catch the criminals who would be the only others to know the details. In fact, the "Air Jordan" bandit was captured based on those details. The police use "vice psychology" to dissect the crime along with the criminal, and the less we (the public) are involved, the sooner they can bring these criminals to justice. If we were in any danger, the police would notify us of the circumstances so that we could act accordingly. Living a block away, I, as much as anyone, would like to get that peace of mind back as soon as possible.

Shane, that's why I specifically said "without releasing any other details." No one's asking for the police to compromise their investigation or release details that would tip off the suspect. I think all B Kibbey wanted to know was whether it was safe to go outside or whether he should keep his family inside their house (for instance if the police were chasing an armed suspect through the neighborhood at that moment). That hardly qualifies him as nosey.

saddened - 2009-07-01 14:04:44
I feel terrible for the deceased and especially for the young boy. what a terrible thing to have to endure. i hope he is among loved ones and finds peace soon.
With regard to the post above this one about the police releasing information. give me a break. the police investigate crimes, gather information and dont release information to the public because then they are releasing their findings and knowledge to the killer too. why would they let the killer know what they know. whose side are you on? the killers?
If the cops tell the public "we know what kind of car the killer is driving". guess what, the killer hears that and ditches the car. "the killer is tall in a red jacket with long blond hair heading north", the killer gets a blue jacket, cuts his hair, and heads south.
your comment is absurd and i get mad when people give the police, the government, the military a hard time because they would rather keep critical information secret instead of releasing to the public, the enemy, and nosey people like you.
use your head.

I agree with you. Without releasing any other details, the police should immediately let the neighbors know if the community is presently at risk, whether the answer is "yes," "no," or "we're still trying to determine."

understood but - 2009-07-01 12:17:15
It's that whole "danger to the community" idea that I am thinking about. I understand the need for prudence. Sorry, but waking up to a pre-6am doorbell to see an officer, a taped off street and police everywhere makes me think about the safety of my family... is someone on the run? is someone in custody? basic questions like that can be answered without jeopardizing the case. Don't get me wrong, I'm behind the APD 100%, hope they get this sob, just want to make sure my family is safe. I think that's a pretty normal reaction.

I sent an email to the police email address listed on the Annapolis.gov website and got this reply a few minutes ago... it's better than nothing I suppose.
"This is an ongoing investigation. As information that does not compromise the investigation becomes available, it will be released. There is no danger to the community."

My heart goes out to the child here, I won't name him but he's a really good kid, hope he gets through this. I really wish the police would put out a statement on this, I know it's early and they are still putting things together but notice that the article above has very little direct information from the police. As best as we can tell, there is a killer on the run right now (hopefully far far away as far as I am concerned); but as a neighbor within sight of this house, I'm a bit annoyed about the lack of information being released. We're relying on overhearing detectives for our information, come on APD, tell us what you know, it's ok if you don't know everything.
