Judge: Market House Ventures must pay $220K

The former managers of the city's landmark Market House must pay two former vendors almost $220,000 because they "negligently misrepresented" the abilities of the building's air-conditioning system, a county judge has ruled.

Attorneys for Market House Ventures LLC, a subsidiary of Site Realty in Silver Spring, immediately notified the court they plan to appeal the final order. However, Neil Hyman, an attorney for the company, said yesterday that it was "too soon" to say exactly what arguments they will make to the Court of Special Appeals.

As to further exemplify the way Site Realty, parent company of Market House Ventures, continues to negatively affect Annapolis, they in fact have formally taken action to appeal the ruling in which they are liable for a measly $220,000 to two former tenants. This is in light of their $2.5 million settlement with the city. It is truely shocking to me as one of those two tenants how this penny pitching management company refuses to walk away and accept responsiblity for their negligence. Perhaps this is yet another one of their tactics to further enrich themselves by offering a smaller settlement amount with the threat of pursuing an appeal. As a small local business owner, I, the victor in the lawsuit, has to now assess whether to impose additional legal fees for an appeal process or settle for yet a smaller compensation. Apparently, this is the legal game that is played...
