It was a polite letter. It was written on notebook paper with a felt-tip pen. Delbert Owens sent it to apologize to the woman he stabbed 14 times in 2005 during an argument in Annapolis.

Circuit Court Judge Paul A. Hackner yesterday sentenced Delbert Owens to an additional two years in prison for violating a no-contact order - stretching his original sentence from 10 years to 12 years behind bars.

Between grammatical errors and crossed-out words, he told his ex-girlfriend that he was sorry, that he had changed, and that he wanted her forgiveness.

"I hope that one day we can get through this. And I hope that we can just talk," he wrote in the two-page letter.

The only problem: A judge specifically told Owens in 2006 that he was never, under any circumstances, allowed to contact Andterri Thompson.

Speaking of being annoyed, try being stabbed by this joker multiple times before he stabbed himself. Then being put in the hospital on the same floor as he and he tries to contact you while are recovering. Now from prison he is still stalking her. You must be crazy to feel any sympathy for this attempted murder.

Headlines - 2009-08-04 22:31:46

Capital, you really need to start thinking before you add your headlines? This wasn't about an apology, it was about an attempted murderer who tried to kill his girlfriend in front of his own son trying to charm his way out of jail. Get real here. Do you read this stuff before you print it. This should not have even made the paper.

What? - 2009-08-04 20:03:45

This headline REALLY REALLY annoys me. This man's apology did not net him 2 yrs in prison. His direct violation of a no-contact order netted him additional prison time. Further, if he didn't realize what he was doing was improper - why didn't he send the letter directly, rather than take the circuitous path through his son? His action in contacting his victim speaks to the fact that he remains the careless/selfish person he was when he committed the crime. Clearly he needs a skosh more "rehabilitation" time.
