With the Maryland World War II Memorial visible through the window of his Ferry Farms home, Dr. Joseph Taler, a Jew who grew up in Poland, recently sat looking at an aged photo. The picture was taken sometime before Sept. 1, 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland and launched the world into chaos 70 years ago.
TOP: Dr. Joseph Taler, who grew up in Poland, stands in front of the Maryland World War II Memorial as he recalls the invasion of his homeland 70 years ago. BOTTOM: Some of the local Jewish and Christian elite in the tiny town of Rozwadow, Poland, gather on the eve of the German invasion: 1st row, from left: • Mrs. Sigall, committed suicide by taking poison while being pursued by Nazis in 1943. • Mrs. Zielonka, executed (shot) by Nazis in 1942. • Mrs. Schwatz, died in childbirth. • Mrs. Taler, survived with the help of the Polish underground as Stanistawa Baranska. • Miss Reich, disappeared, circumstances unknown. • Miss Speicer, Christian, survived the war and hid Mr. Monies. • Mr. Monies, pharmacist, survived the war and married Miss Speicer. 2nd row, from left: • Mr. Taler, lawyer, survived under fake identity of Stanistaw Wojeicki. • Mrs. Traunstein, pharmacist, survived under fake name. • Mr. Traunstein, lawyer, shot by Nazis in 1942. • Miss Traunstein, fate unknown. • Mr. Schwartz, died during the war of unknown circumstances. • Mr. Zielonka, lawyer, executed by Nazis together with his wife. 3rd row, from left: • Dr. Landau, physician, killed by Nazis in 1942. • Mr. Isenberg, lawyer, died in Siberian labor camp in 1941.
A quiet pall spread across the room as Taler looked at the sepia-toned picture, which showed 15 members of the local elite of Rozwadow, the quiet little town where Taler grew up catching trains to attend high school in a nearby town, and foraging for wild berries in season. "Those who ignore history are destined to repeat it." The point is that these people lived through the worst atrocity of all time yet did move on and are living full lives. If you don't like what's on this site you might look up James Von Brunn's. Well, maybe since he shot a guard at the Holocaust Museum his site might not be available any more.

Please speak for yourself. I don't think that "the rest of us are getting bored". This gentlemen did not go to the paper. The paper came to him for the story. I still find space in my heart for someone who lived through the murder of family members.
