Maryland may be grappling with a scarcity of nurses, but there's no shortage in Anne Arundel County.

Officials from Anne Arundel Medical Center and Baltimore Washington Medical Center said they've seen an uptick in the number of full-time nurses over the past year. Sherry Perkins, chief nurse executive at Anne Arundel Medical Center, attributed the increase to the hospital's reputation as a place to work, but said the recession also has played a role. And what a way to hold onto the existing nurses as AAMC has recently advised staff that the nurses will be taking a significant pay cut by phasing out a percentage of their pay over the next year or so.
