They're all very real, and they're happening right here, representatives from the State's Attorney Office told parents last night at Annapolis High School.

"At one point I had eight individuals charged with murder, all of them Bloods. Who doesn't think we have a gang problem?" said Assistant State's Attorney Michael Dunty. "Whether it's trespassing, whether it's spray painting, whether it's beating each other up, we have a gang problem."

Believe me, the Crips, Bloods, and MS-13 are already in Anne Arundel and Calvert Counties.

and that's only MS-13... - 2009-11-13 16:09:03

there are plenty more gangs out there. It's pretty sad when you can find local gang information in Wikipedia or similar resources and that locality is maybe 30 minutes from where you live. I used to work in Lanham and I can assure you it's bad there as well.

Illegal Alien MS-13 problem - 2009-11-12 15:35:38

From the Maryland State Website:
In Maryland, MS-13 is present throughout Montgomery and Prince Georges counties, but is especially active in the Langley Park and Takoma Park areas. MS-13 is present to a lesser degree in Howard County where MS-13 appears to be involved in auto theft. Individual gang members and gang graffiti are being identified by law enforcement throughout the state including Baltimore City and Baltimore, Carroll County, Frederick, Harford, and Washington counties. MS-13 is known to visit or hold meetings in Charles, Calvert, St. Marys, Wicomico, and Worcester counties.

In Prince Georges County, MS-13 activity has been a major problem in the area of Langley Park and nearby communities. MS-13 has been involved in numerous assaults, murders, rapes, as well as extortion, prostitution rings and thefts from autos. Montgomery County gang investigators report MS-13 activity in Silver Spring, Wheaton, Rockville, and Gaithersburg. MS-13 gang members are associated with numerous assaults, several rapes and homicides.

Parents don't think we have a gang - 2009-11-12 04:04:53

If they did, they would not allow gangster music, video games, televeision shows, movies, and anti-government propaganda flood their homes and children's lives. Explicit warnings and parental controls will not stem the tide if parents don't use them. This next generation won't know of any other type of life, but of fear, intimidation, and security only known through their crew, unless we can afford the gang busters. How much do we have to lose first?

Felicia.... - 2009-11-11 12:51:10

The article says:
"and public housing in Annapolis has the Bywater and Robinwood crews, he said."
Not that Bywater is public housing... that's the gang name.

Bywater - 2009-11-11 08:51:17

Bywater is not apart of public housing, correct your information. http://bit.ly/3sYqoW. Other than that, good story.

thanks SAO - 2009-11-10 18:42:12

Thank you to the State's Attorney Office for organizing this presentation.
Considering all the attention Christopher Jones' case received...and how many varied opinions there were, I am disappointed that no one turned out for the previous attempt at NEHS and only 35 people came out for the Annapolis High presentation. Everyone was quick with an opinion or a comment on Chris' death...they should have been as passionate to learn how to educate themselves and their children so they can avoid the same fate.
