County unveils energy proposalPublished 11/16/09
The county's first formal strategy to improve energy use would convert methane gas from the Millersville landfill into electricity and seek to cut energy consumption by 30 percent in both government and the private sector. The plan uses nearly $4.5 million in federal stimulus funds plus an additional $3 million in bonds to implement a host of energy efficiency programs that include synchronizing traffic lights to cut the time motorists idle at stoplights, retrofitting a few historic buildings, and creating an inventory of the county's biggest greenhouse gas polluters. $7.5 million divided by 92 = $81,521 per job. Does The Capital care to inquire about the efficacy (not to say rationality) of such a "plan"? No.
