Broadneck hobbyist donates vast artifact collection to county

Bob Ogle has been poking around fields across the county and the mid-Atlantic for 55 years, hunting for history.

Paul W. Gillespie — The Capital Bob Ogle holds a 3,000- to 4,000-year-old stone ax, part of the extensive collection of artifacts he has uncovered over the years.

Now he has donated his collection, containing literally thousands of historic and prehistoric artifacts, to the Lost Towns Project housed at the county's archaeological center at Historic Londontown in Edgewater.

The collection runs the gamut from 10-million-year-old giant shark teeth and Native American arrow points and pottery to atlatl weights and handmade Colonial clay pipes, virtually all of it collected by Ogle and his keen eye.

Ogle agrees he is a pack rat of the first order. "I'm satisfied...

I worked with bob years ago on the Belair estate ,surveying......he could spot arrowheads,clay pipes,pottery.......like radar.
