Furman averted disaster by following a fourth-quarter fumble with a 6-yard touchdown run to score a slice of redemption and send Old Mill into the Class 4A state final with a 20-13 victory over Sherwood last night.

"I knew we had to get the ball back," said Furman, who fumbled with 3 minutes, 49 seconds left and a 13-12 deficit. "If we could get a quick stop, I knew we could come down and score."

The Patriots (11-2) got the stop with 1:34 to play, and Joe Thornton, Jason Clements and Chad Hicks uncovered a hidden passing game...

Furman - 2009-11-30 10:02:58

It isn't a wonder that Josh Furman is an exceptional athlete. His father has worked with him long before he knew what a football was. This young man shows respect and character associated with group sports. Not only is he great on the football field, he upholds scholarship in school, remains to show perseverance and uplift with family and friends. This young man represents the manhood which is needed to shine in the communities for all races and other young athletes to emulate. Much respect to young Furman. His father and mother must be proud.

Congratulations to Old Mill - 2009-11-29 08:55:21

Congratulations to Old Mill for an outstanding upset of both Arundel and Sherwood to make it to the State finals. While I am a 1982 graduate of Annapolis, I am a huge fan of Queen Anne's County High School Football as my daughters graduated from there. Queen Annes defeated Middletown on Friday night to also have there first ever State Finals berth. Both Old Mill and Queen Annes are venturing where they have never gone before and I wish them luck in bringing home a State trophy. On Saturday I will be sitting in those purple seats of Raven's Stadium cheering for the green and gold of Queen Annes and on Friday night I will be thinking about Old Mill. Great job boys!
