World AIDS Day brought home

Ronnie Groce stepped to the lectern last night and looked out at a quiet crowd of several dozen people in the pews at First Presbyterian Church in Annapolis.

She looked in their eyes and asked them: Had they had a flu shot? A colonoscopy? An H1N1 flu shot?

How about an HIV test?

Getting tested, she said, is key to battling HIV and AIDS, a deadly disease that affects millions of people worldwide.

"I'm hoping one day we can stamp this out," said Groce, 61, who lost her brother and sister to AIDS.

And, she revealed to the gathering, she is HIV-positive, too.
