An Annapolis mortgage broker who moonlighted for the past several years as a financial adviser misappropriated more than $2.3 million of his clients' money to buy and sell stocks for his own personal gain, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Securities and Exchange Commission. David Wehrs Sr., the 54-year-old owner of the Maryland Title and Escrow Co., was charged yesterday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore with one count of wire fraud in connection with the scheme, which ultimately wiped out $1.7 million in private investments and cost a title insurance company more than $630,000. I hope that he gets what he deserves. If he gets off with some plea deal where he doesn't do hard time, that will be disgusting. If this country just allows this type of crime to go unpunished, our financial system will get even worse than it already is. Honestly, citizens should be outraged and speak up.
