County officer challenges dismissal

A 17-year veteran of the county Police Department claims he was fired last year because he complained to Internal Affairs about other officers using excessive force, according to a lawsuit he has filed.

But attorneys representing the county claim Cpl. Gerald Smith was terminated for another reason: He lied under oath in 2008 during a child custody hearing and prosecutors can no longer rely on his testimony at trial.

A county judge will hear from both sides May 3 in county Circuit Court in Annapolis and decide if there is enough evidence for the lawsuit to go to a jury.

Cpl. Smith mixed something up. Big deal as it all got straightened out.
The car chase deal had Cpl. Smith as the scapegoat.
I had a motorcycle stolen. The arriving officer was a dunderhead and let the thief DRIVE AWAY after I caught him red handed!
Cpl. Smith did a REAL investigation, obtained a Warrant and helped put the thief in jail.
We need more Cpl. Smiths.

If it walks like a duck....... get this guy off the force....our A.A. county police are great people....we don't need a bad apple like this....when police hand cuff you...there's a good reason......GUILTY.....
